Color can be scary and up until a few years ago I always stuck to safe neutrals. “No need to call more attention to myself,” I thought, but over the last year or so I have really started to incorporate color into my wardrobe. The thought of adding a bright fuchsia dress to a sea of whites, creams, browns and blues can seem super overwhelming, but there are ways to incorporate pops of color into your wardrobe that won’t overpower your neutrals, just compliment them.
When I first began incorporating bold hues into my wardrobe to remain comfortable when wearing them I stuck to these three tips:
- Simplicity: There are colorful pieces out there that have simplistic styles. The simple style allows you to add color to your wardrobe without changing your style drastically. Ease into purchasing pieces that are bold in color but still resemble your style so you can feel comfortable showing off that neon dress or bold pair of pants.
- Colorful Accessories: Integrating color into your day-to-day outfits doesn’t always have to mean a piece of clothing and can be done through accessories as well. If you aren’t sure bold colors are for you, you can always try it out with a pair of statement earrings, a handbag or a hair styling piece. The options are endless!
- Incorporate Neutrals: Favorite neutral pieces from your closet don’t have to disappear when you wear that bold sweater or dress because they often make the best complimenting pieces to an outfit. Your favorite pair of white denim may look amazing with the lavender sweater and your nude pumps may allow that red dress to pop. Incorporating these styling pieces can help to tie the outfit together.
When it comes to purchasing bold pieces there isn’t any specific right or wrong way to go about it and at the end of the day it truly depends on your comfort level. These tips helped me immensely because I wanted to remain true to my style and avoid feeling uncomfortable in other pieces. After being on the fence about adding color to my wardrobe, I couldn’t be happier with how comfortable I’ve become wearing my new favorite pieces!
