Spring Vibes

A spring wardrobe always looks and feels so fresh. Transitioning into the spring and summer months can allow for your wardrobe to take on a whole new life! Fresh flowers serve as an inspiration to mix and match pastel pieces with bright whites or are the perfect backdrop to a vibrant patterned two piece set. Whether it is still a little chilly in your neck of the woods or warmer weather is in full swing, spring offers the perfect opportunity to wipe the slate clean from the cold and reinvent your style or rediscover some of your favorite spring staples.

In anticipation for the warmer weather (I am so ready for spring!!!!), I decided to start organizing my winter, spring and summer wardrobes. New England weather in March can be a hit or miss so out of fear for another snow storm I have kept a majority of winter essentials in my closet, just in case. My white denim, pastel tops, and floral dresses has been washed and pressed to get them ready to wear.

The temperatures have been much warmer this week and I couldn't resist styling a pair of white jeans with a champagne crocheted lace top, a classic jean jacket and a pair of backless suede booties. The decade old rule that wearing white is acceptable only between Memorial Day and Labor Day is not a rule I follow and I believe that if the weather permits, white denim can be a staple to any season.

These crisps white jeans are from J.Crew Factory and are one of the most comfortable pairs that I own. They have a little stretch to them so I tend to size down to make sure that they fit comfortably around the waist. My champagne top is from Roolee and I absolutely love it (and them!). When I began to purchase clothing from them I was hesitant because I am a stickler for quality fabrics and it can be difficult to be sure that you will receive that when you haven't shopped somewhere before, but when I received a few tops I knew instantly that the quality was there. My top is also on sale for only $32.99! The jean jacket I am wearing is also from J. Crew Factory and has become piece that I am constantly reaching for, I have found that it complements so many outfits during the spring, summer and fall months. To tie everything together I chose the White Leo Envelop Clutch from Rebecca Minkoff and a pair of open back suede booties from Sole Society that are a great seasonal transition piece for days where it isn't warm enough for a sandal or flat.
Is everyone ready for longer days and warmer weathers??

New England Snow Days

Outfit Details: Dress, Boots (Similar), Sunglasses

Snow days are winter essentials and this weekend did not disappoint! Saturday night into Sunday morning we had about 8 inches of snow fall and were able to wake up to a winter wonderland. At our house, snow days are treasured, even if they fall on the weekend because they allow us the opportunity to tackle different projects or just have a day of relaxation (AND...we didn't have to shovel!). Sunday, Chris and I were able to get our kitchen finished up (we had a lot of remodeling that needed to be done and still have some more to do, but this was a serious win), organize the office and watch Django Unchained before we went to bed. All in all it was a very productive day and taking a different approach to it let us get some projects completed that we had been holding off on. The day even offered enough time to be outside and explore a bit with my mom while we shot some new outfits. Every snow day deserves a comfortable outfit and what better than a flannel dress from Kiel James Patrick!
Our approach to snow days has always been to take on the day differently than a typical week day or weekend. The point of a snow day, to us anyway, is to slow down and relax. I wanted to share with you some of my favorite snow day rituals that help Chris and I stay productive and allow us to rest!
  1.  Read! Picking up a good book during a snow storm can be one of the dest decisions. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies and as I get older I find less and less time to pick up a good book. Snow days give me a chance to catch up on my reading and if Im cozy enough I can make it through a whole book.
  2. Organize: Organization is the key to functionality throughout the busy week and I often find that on the weekend I struggle to organize the little things in my life, such as my makeup or photos. Snow days offers the time to get these smaller organizational tasks done without taking away from my day to day obligations. Oddly enough, I find that I always have a little extra motivation for projects like these on a snow day!
  3. Movie Marathon: Harry Potter, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, James Bond, or any Disney movie are my go to choices. A stormy day is the perfect opportunity to cuddle up in bed in your favorite pajamas with a cup of hot chocolate and a bowl of popcorn. There are days where it is necessary to relax and recharge and this can act as the perfect excuse.
  4. Start a Project (or finish one...): Projects are endless at our house! Having just purchased our first home our list of projects has grown immensely. There is always something that can be updated, painted, sanded or refinished. The list goes on and on, but we have found it to be difficult to find the necessary time to start and even complete these projects. There is nothing worse than living in a construction zone, so a snow day offers the perfect opportunity to start a smaller project to cross it off your list. Chris was able to put on our newly painted kitchen cabinet doors (thank goodness that our dishes once again have privacy and a home)!

No matter what the day brings, I always find that a snow day allows us to step away from the monotonous day-to-day routines to enjoy the things we often put to the side. I hope you all had a great weekend and a fun snow day! What are some of your favorite snow day rituals?

Valentines Day!

Outfit Details: Coat (Similar), Little Red Dress, Heels, KJP Necklace and Bracelet
Love has no one definition, but instead takes the form of many different meanings to each individual person. My love for my husband, family and friends are all different, but they are all still love. This idea that love has its own meaning for everyone is the reason why Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays, there is no wrong or right way to celebrate! Whether you decide to stay in for a low key dinner with your other half, catch a movie with the girls or dine out at a fancy restaurant you can't go wrong.

Our plans for Valentine's Day are forever changing. There have been years where we have cooked in (when I say "we" I mean Chris, he makes the best food!) and years when we have gone out. Last year, our plan was to have a nice dinner in town but due to getting the flu, Valentine's Day turned into a trip to the ER and a Tamiflu prescription, really romantic I know. This year, in an attempt to redeem ourselves we have reservations at a local favorite, The Oyster Club in Mystic, CT.
The Oyster Club in Mystic is a staple and was one of the first restaurants Chris and I went too for lunch together about five years ago, which is why it was such an easy decision to have dinner there for Valentine's Day. All Social events for us revolve around food meaning that because I am such a huge foodie, I still remember the Southern Friend Chicken and Strawberry Salad I had, can you say yum?! A great date and a good meal can leave a lasting impression (after all, I did marry him)! The Oyster Club's story does an incredible job at describing what they are all about, you can check it out here.

Every dinner reservation for a special occasion deserves a beautiful timeless dress and in honor of Valentine's Day, I found the perfect red one! The decision wasn't easy as Anthropologie has a variety of holiday inspired dresses, but I ended up purchasing a simple little red dress that works out perfectly for multiple occasions. When looking to make a decision on a dress material is always the first thing I look at because it is a direct correlation to quality and this dress does not fall short in that regard. Also, I love the fit-and-flare silhouette that is both flirty and sophisticated. When paired with a KJP pearl necklace and bracelet, a pair of Sam Edelman heels and a cream peacoat (similar here), this dress is transformed for an evening out.

Do you all have plans for Valentine's Day or have a favorite holiday tradition with your loved ones?
Sending lots of love,
Victoria
